INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF MATERIALS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
The courses offered by the International School of Materials Science and Technology cover topics of interest in both areas of research and development. The courses have two main objectives: 1) to provide an understanding of the scientific and technical implementations of the specific materials that make up the course programme 2) to provide a broad basic training in the fields of materials preparation, characterisation and analysis of fundamental phenomena and specific applications. Within the framework of these objectives, the school aims to update university staff members and research associates from the departments of electrical engineering and materials science, as well as physics. A sample of the courses of the past ten years includes courses (all taught with great success) on the following topics: ferroelectric materials, III-V compounds and their applications, surfaces, fast ion and mixed conductors, magnetic semiconductor phase transitions, non-linear materials, intercalation in layered materials, solid-state micro-batteries, elementary and molecular cluster superconductivity, and low-dimensional structures. The school’s courses are aimed at advanced graduate students and post-doctoral researchers in the physics, chemistry, and technology of solid- state materials for advanced technologies.
