Solid Earth Geophysics is becoming an increasingly defined and unified discipline as basic earth mechanisms are considered in depth from a physical point of view. The school aims to help establish the main lines of interdisciplinarity in modern Geophysics, in order to increasingly eliminate the barriers between physicists, geologists and mathematicians dedicated to the study of geophysical phenomena. Finally, geophysicists have something important to say about peace: the discrimination between earthquakes and underground nuclear explosion experiments is a good example. The enormous moral and material damage of the small and large earthquakes that have struck the Italian territory in recent years have unequivocally shown the need for ever greater liaison between all those who, albeit with different instruments and skills, can help to drastically reduce such damage. If it is true that understanding seismic phenomena is one of the most exciting problems of modern scientific research, it is also true that the impact of an earthquake on the social and economic structures of the affected area is always of such importance that it affects scientific research itself. The main aim is to take stock of the status of methodologies that have been developed in Italy since the 1976 Friuli earthquake. Topics covered will include developments in modern seismology, mass communications, socio-economic issues, and land use problems.
